Georg August von Schönfeld

Georg August von Schönfeld (* 1722 in Guhrow ; † 1793 ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of infantry regiment No. 30 and knight of the Order of the Black Eagle .

Life

origin

Georg August comes from the Silesian branch of the Schönfeld family . His parents were Kaspar Siegmund von Schönfeld (1685–1752) and Eleonore Gottliebe, née von Metzrad (1693–1726). Lieutenant General Friedrich Wilhelm von Schönfeld was his stepbrother.

Military career

Schönfeld joined the Prussian Army in 1734 and in 1741 joined the Dohna Infantry Regiment No. 38 . In 1750 he became second lieutenant and adjutant . He was then transferred to another regiment. In 1761 he became major in the Infantry Regiment "Graf Anhalt" No. 3 . There he became lieutenant colonel in 1771 and colonel in 1773 . On May 22, 1782, Schönfeld was appointed major general and on May 20, 1789, lieutenant general. As early as 1782 he received the infantry regiment "Teufel von Birkensee" No. 30 in Anklam from the king . In July 1793 Schönfeld was made Knight of the Black Eagle Order by King Friedrich Wilhelm II .

Schönfeld fought in the Silesian Wars under Friedrich II. In the battles near Hohenfriedberg , Prague , Breslau and Kunersdorf , where he was wounded. He was also present at the siege of Cosel and the battle of Meissen. During the War of the Bavarian Succession , he took part in the battle of Jägerndorf in 1778.

He died unmarried in 1793.
