Life

origin

Georg Christoph came from a Pomeranian noble family and was the son of Nikolaus Heinrich von Natzmer (1663–1726) and his wife Agnes Adelheid, née von Pirch (1675–1745).

Military career

In 1710 Natzmer joined the Prussian army on horseback with the regiment "du Portail" . Since 1712 cornet , he took part in the War of the Spanish Succession in France until 1713 . By 1719 he was promoted to Rittmeister and company commander in the regiment. 1732 Natzmer Major , however, was the end of 1733 for two months fortress detention in Spandau . Promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1736 , he was in the cuirassier regiment "Graf Geßler" and was appointed regimental commander the following year. Natzmer was commissioned to form the first Prussian Uhlan regiment . To do this, he was supposed to set up five squadrons , but only with the accession of King Friedrich II . In 1741 he was promoted to colonel and appointed chief of the newly formed hussar regiment named after him. This was followed by deployment in the First Silesian War and Natzmer came to the camp in front of Strehlen on June 2, 1741 with 400 Uhlans. In the first battle on June 7th near Olbendorf they encountered Hungarian hussars who showed themselves to be superior to them. Although they could still distinguish themselves later, the association was converted into hussars on June 4, 1742. After the peace agreement, they were quartered in Seydliz, where thorough training took place. In 1748, Prince Moritz von Anhalt-Dessau wrote about the regiment "in such a fine condition and in such good order as the prince has never seen a hussar regiment."

During the Second Silesian War, his association under Kurt Christoph von Schwerin advanced to Bohemia and in 1744 covered the retreat of General von Einsiedel from Prague . In January 1745 they also expelled the Austrians from Upper Silesia . Natzmer was able to distinguish himself in the battle near Reich-Hennersdorf, as well as the battle near Hohenfriedberg - where his regiment captured the kettledrums of the Electoral Saxon carbine guards - and in the battle of Thrush . In 1750 he was promoted to major general and died the following year.

family

In 1731 he married Sophie Margarethe Elisabeth Dietrich (1707–1782) from Oschersleben . She was the daughter of Dietrich's councilor and widow of the Hanoverian captain Wallmoden . The following children emerged from the marriage between Natzmer and Dietrich:

  • Nikolaus Gustav Friedrich Leopold (* 1732; † after 1790), Prussian Colonel ⚭ NN von Lojewski

  • Friedrich August Karl Christian Erdmann (* 1746)

Rating

Despite his remarkable career, it should be noted that the king saw several reasons for reprimanding Georg Christoph von Natzmer , who subsequently apparently always managed to convince him of his qualities.
