Georg Sigwart (philologist)
Georg Sigwart (born December 13, 1881 in Kleinsüßen , † December 6, 1952 in Wasserburg - Edgarten ) was a German classical philologist , local researcher and high school professor .
Life
Georg Sigwart was one of nine children of Friedrich Georg Heinrich Sigwart (1849–1913) and his wife Mathilde, née Hahn. He attended grammar school in Stuttgart and then studied classical philology and history at the Protestant seminary in Tübingen . In 1906 he received his doctorate at the Philosophical Faculty in Tübingen with a thesis on Roman fasts and annals under Diodorus . A contribution to the criticism of the older republican constitutional history. The work also appeared as an article in the ancient historical journal Klio Ausg. 6 from 1906. From October 1, 1908 to April 30, 1916, he worked as a material collector for the lexicon project Thesaurus Linguae Latinae .
After his time at the thesaurus, Sigwart taught at the grammar school in Ulm from 1916 to 1933 , later in Wasserburg and devoted himself to researching the Etruscan language and the history of Wasserburg for many years . Many of his contributions to the Heimat am Inn series can be found in the reference library of the Stadtarchiv Wasserburg am Inn . Among other things, he held a lecture event on the subject of "The Roman Stone in Attel " in 1936 at the Heimatverein (Historischer Verein) e. V. for Wasserburg and the surrounding area . He was also the initiator for the establishment and first chairman of the Roßhart fruit and horticultural association . His design for the coat of arms of the parish village of Attel was not approved in 1932 due to current regulations.
Sigwart was married without children and died in Edgarten in 1952.
