Georges Khoury
Georges Toufik Khoury (* 1970 in Safita , Tartus Governorate , Syria ) is a Syrian clergyman and Melkite Greek Catholic bishop of Nossa Senhora do Paraíso em São Paulo .
Life
Georges Khoury in 1998 after studying philosophy and Catholic theology by Emeritus Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of Latakia , Michel Yatim , the deacon ordained. On April 14, 1999, he received the sacrament of ordination through the Archbishop of Latakia, Fares Maakaroun .
Subsequently, Khoury worked as a pastor in Safita. He graduated from the University of Claretians in Brazil with a degree in Biblical Studies . From 2002 to 2003, Georges Khoury was pastor of the Catedral Melquita Nossa Senhora do Paraíso in São Paulo before he became pastor of the parish of São Basílio e Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro in Rio de Janeiro .
On June 17, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Melkite Greek Catholic Bishop of Nossa Senhora do Paraíso em São Paulo. The Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch of Antioch , Joseph Absi SMSP , donated him episcopal ordination on August 25 of the same year ; Co - consecrators were the Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of Homs , Abdo Arbach BC , and the Patriarchal Vicar of Damascus , Nicolas Antiba BA . The inauguration took place on September 22, 2019.
