Georges Varkey Puthiyakulangara MEP (born January 26, 1953 in Endoor , India ) is the Roman Catholic Bishop of Port-Bergé .

Life

Georges Varkey Puthiyakulangara, son of a Syro-Malabar family, attended the Minor Seminary in Mangalore . He joined the order of the Paris Missionaries and studied theology and philosophy at the Pontifical Seminary of St. Peter in Bangalore . He also completed a degree in social communication. He received in on 31 May 1982 Karnataka in the Diocese of Chikmagalur the priesthood . First he worked in pastoral care in the diocese of Chikmagalur and in 1985/86 for his order in Paris . He was a Fidei Donum priest in the diocese of Mahajanga (1986–1987) and pastor in the diocese of Port-Bergé (1987–1990) in Madagascar.

From 1990 to 1995 he was Caritas chaplain and prison chaplain , diocesan treasurer for the Children's Mission . From 1997 to 2004, Georges Varkey Puthiyakulangara was executive secretary of the Bishops' Conference of Madagascar. From 2005 to 2008 he was the diocesan director of Catholic education in the diocese of Mahajanga .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on November 24, 2008 Coadjutor Bishop of Port-Bergé. The old archbishop of Antananarivo , Armand Gaétan Cardinal Razafindratandra , donated him episcopal ordination on May 24 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were Armand Toasy , Bishop of Port-Bergé, and Augustine Kasujja , Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar , the Seychelles and Mauritius and Apostolic Delegate to the Comoros .

On December 15, 2013, he was appointed Bishop of Port-Bergé by Pope Francis .
