Gerd Warken

Gerd Warken (born March 5, 1951 ) is a former German soccer player. From 1974 to 1980, the offensive player played 167 point games in the 2nd Bundesliga with the clubs SV Röchling Völklingen and FC 08 Homburg , scoring 39 goals. His hit with a "flying header" on March 25, 1979 in the 1-1 draw against SpVgg Bayreuth , was voted goal of the month in the ARD sports show .

The man on the left attacking side won the amateur championship in Saarland in 1969/70 with his club VfB Theley and was promoted to the Southwest Regional Football League . With the black and whites from the Schaumberg Stadium, the young player started the 1970/71 regional league season with the game on August 15, 1970 at ASV Landau . The eleven from the 3,000-inhabitant village ranked with coach Hans Neuerburg at the end of the round in 16th place in the table and were relegated to the amateur camp. Warken had scored six goals in 24 games. Immediately succeeded in 1971/72 the championship in the Saarland League and thus the immediate return to the second-rate Regionalliga Südwest. Under coach Herbert Binkert Theley took tenth place in 1972/73 and Warken had contributed 14 goals in 29 league games.

Before the last year of the old second-rate regional league, 1973/74, the attacker joined league rivals SV Völklingen. With the former Braunschweig master coach Helmuth Johannsen , Völklingen took fourth place behind Neunkirchen, 1. FC Saarbrücken and FC Homburg. Warken made his debut with the Schwarzrote from the municipal stadium on August 12, 1973, at the home game against Homburg. In the 1-1 draw he formed the attack of the Johannsen team with Walter Spohr and Jürgen Fuhrmann . On matchday 12, November 10, he scored a goal in a 2-0 home win against his hometown club VfB Theley. In 20 league games he scored six goals. From 1970 to 1974 Warken played 73 games in the Regionalliga Südwest for Theley and Völklingen and scored 26 goals. Völklingen belonged to the 1974/75 round of the newly installed 2nd Bundesliga in the southern group. The improved sporting competition demanded an adjustment and Völklingen had to be content with 13th place. But Warken achieved his best lap record. He played 37 competitive games and scored 15 goals. After the fourth matchday, Völklingen had 7-1 points on the account. In the 5-0 home win on December 15, 1974 against the league leaders and later champions and promoted Karlsruher SC , Warken scored two goals. He also scored two goals on May 4, 1975 in a 2-1 away win at Borussia Neunkirchen. On the last round match day, June 15, 1975, Völklingen also won the second leg at KSC with 4-0 goals and Warken scored his 15th goal of the season in the Karlsruhe Wildpark Stadium . Behind the attacking colleague Gilbert Dussier (17 goals) he was the most dangerous attacker for the Völklinger. In the next two rounds - 1975/76 and 1976/77 - Warken completed 66 other competitive games in the 2nd Bundesliga under coach Binkert and scored eleven goals. In the 1976 DFB Cup , Warken and his teammates from SV Völklingen were only in the quarter-finals in the replay on April 28, 1976 in front of 13,000 against Hertha BSC with their top performers Uwe Kliemann , Lorenz Horr , Erich Beer and Erwin Kostedde with 1: 2 goals failed. Due to the voluntary return of the license from Völklingen after the 1976/77 season, Gerd Warken joined FC Homburg in the 2nd Bundesliga for the 1977/78 round.

After his playing career, he joined the clubs Borussia Neunkirchen, 1. FC Saarbrücken (amateurs), SV Mettlach, FC Homburg and between 2008 and 2011 Rot-Weiß Hasborn for years as a coach.
