Gerhard Dietrich (pedagogue)
Gerhard Dietrich (born November 26, 1927 in Aue ; † October 8, 1986 in Berlin ) was a German educator , university professor and union official in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). From 1952 to 1980 he worked at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig in the field of methodology for teaching biology and from 1980 to 1986 Secretary General of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences (APW) of the GDR.
Life
Dietrich, son of a metalworker, attended elementary school in Hundshübel ( Erzgebirge ) from 1942 to 1944 at the higher commercial school in Eibenstock . In 1941 he joined the Hitler Youth (HJ). In 1944 Dietrich was drafted into the German armed forces and fought in the Second World War until 1945 . After the end of the war until December 1945 he was interned in camp 2228 in the Rhineland .
In 1945/46 Dietrich was employed in a brush factory in Stützengrün . In 1946 he joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and in the same year became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). From 1946 to 1949 he was a new teacher at the Hundshübel elementary school and then became a lecturer at the adult education center and was active in teacher training. In 1949 he became a teacher at the Schneeberg high school .
From 1949 to 1952 Dietrich studied at the Pedagogical Faculty of the University of Leipzig, where he was a research assistant from 1952 to 1956 and then a lecturer until 1963. In 1957 he received his doctorate and in 1962 his habilitation . From 1963 he was a professor with a teaching position. From 1964 to 1969 Dietrich was Vice Rector for Young Scientists at the University of Leipzig and from 1970 to 1976 Director of the Pedagogy Section and Head of the Teaching Methodology Department.
From 1977 to 1980 Dietrich was chairman of the “Working Group on Pedagogical Science” and full professor for methodology in biology teaching. In addition, he was chairman of the “Central Expert Commission on Biology Methodology of the Ministry of Public Education and the Ministry of Higher and Technical Schools of the GDR”. From 1970 Dietrich was also a full member and from 1980 to 1986 General Secretary of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences (APW) of the GDR.
From 1980 to 1986 Dietrich was also a member of the central board of the teaching and education union in the GDR.
