Live and act

Gerhard Falch was born on July 13, 1948 as the son of a school principal and an innkeeper in the small Innviertel community of Polling. He attended elementary school and secondary school in the district capital Braunau, where he graduated in 1966 . He then began studying process engineering with one interruption at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at the Graz University of Technology , graduating in 1978 with a degree in engineering . He then worked for a construction company in Stuttgart for a year before he returned to his home country and started working in industrial plant construction at voestalpine in 1979 . From 1980 to 1986 he managed two major projects in Southeast Asia and was then head of the chemical technology division from 1986 to 1992 , and subsequently managing director of three voestalpine subsidiaries until 1994.

From 1994 onwards, Falch was on the board of the nationalized Elektro Bau AG , which merged in 1997 with the likewise nationalized ELIN-UNION AG to form VA Technologie , based in Linz . From this time he was a member of the board of the said technology group belonging to voestalpine. In 1999 he became CEO of Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbH (VAI), which subsequently became part of the Siemens Group and was continued as Siemens VAI and has been a Primetals Technologies company since 2015 . From 2002 he was Deputy General Director of VA Technologie AG and, after the company was taken over by Siemens, he was a member of the Management Board of Siemens Austria from 2005 to 2007 .

In September 2007, the 59-year-old Falch was appointed CEO and thus General Director of AMAG Austria Metall AG , based in Ranshofen , near his birthplace. Under his leadership, the company went public in the spring of 2011. Helmut Wieser was announced as his successor as CEO of the group in September 2013 . After that, Falch remained deputy chairman of the supervisory board. Partly in parallel, he was also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Energie AG Oberösterreich from 2008 to 2018 . Furthermore, he was temporarily on the supervisory board of VA Intertrading Aktiengesellschaft , as well as chairman of the supervisory board of Asamer Holding . Due to health problems, he largely withdrew from all areas of activity in 2017 and 2018.

In the municipality where he lived , Falch took part in local politics for the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), where he was temporarily a member of the municipal council and vice mayor. Furthermore, since April 30, 1996, he has been a functionary (advisory board, executive committee) of the local football club SV Antiesenhofen .

Through Ludwig Scharinger and Eduard Saxinger , Falch came into contact with the Austrian Cartell Association and the non-striking color-bearing student association K.Ö.St.V. Severina from Linz, of which he became an honorary member. Together with former governor Josef Ratzenböck , Falch was awarded the Severina ribbon.

He left his wife Sylvia Maria and their two adult daughters Verena and Stephanie with families. After the funeral service in the Reichersberg Abbey , Falch was buried at the Antiesenhofen cemetery.
