Gerhard Reuschel

Gerhard Reuschel (born September 23, 1944 in Döbeln ( Saxony ); † June 9, 2002 in Cottbus ) was a German officer in the National People's Army (NVA) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). He was a major general and commander of the 1st Air Defense Division .

Life

The son of a businessman attended school and graduated from high school in 1963 . He was an aviator for the Society for Sport and Technology (GST) and was drafted into the NVA as a volunteer applicant on September 1, 1963. He became an officer's student and completed pilot training at the Franz Mehring Air Force / Air Defense Officers College in Kamenz by 1967 . There he became a candidate of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany and in 1966 he became a member of the SED. After completing his training, he was appointed lieutenant in 1967 and the first use of the troops as a pilot / high pilot in Jagdfliegergeschwader 3 (JG-3). Then followed the first leadership assignment as a chain commander until 1973 and the assignment as a squadron helmsman also in JG-3. Subsequently he was commanded from 1974 to 1978 to study at the Military Academy of the Air Force "JA Gagarin" in the Soviet Union . After returning from the Soviet Union, Gerhard Reuschel was first squadron commander until 1980 , then deputy for aviation training until 1982 and finally from August 1982 to October 1986 as commander of Fighter Wing-3 . In 1986 Colonel Reuschel was transferred to the division command of the 1st Air Defense Division (LVD) to the post of deputy commander for fighter pilots . On May 1, 1988, he was appointed commander of the 1st LVD (successor to Alois Zieris ) and on October 7, 1989, he was appointed major general . With the extensive demobilization of the NVA on October 2, 1990, Reuschel was released.
