Giovanni Alliata

Giovanni Alliata (* in Pisa ; † October 30, 1816 in Rome ) was an Italian priest .

Life

Alliata came from a patrician family . The son of Francesco Alliatas and brother of Ranierio Alliata, Archbishop of Pisa and previously Bishop of Volterra , entered the Roman prelature on February 28, 1782 as a trainee lawyer in the courts of the Apostolic Signature . Andrea Corsini made him the executor of his will . Pope Pius VI appointed General Auditor of the Apostolic Chamber on February 14, 1785 . From 1794 to 1798 he was civil auditor of the Apostolic Chamber. After the first restoration of the papal government in Rome, Pius VII appointed him auditor of the Court of Justice of the Apostolic Signature on October 30, 1800. On April 25, 1802, he became governor of Loreto . He stayed in this office until the French invasion of the Marches . On June 4, 1808, he became His Holiness Proauditor after the Napoleonic occupation of Rome. After the restoration of the papal government in Rome, his functions were confirmed and also made coadjutor of the papal auditor Alessandro Lacchini , whom he succeeded in this task on August 27, 1815. On August 15, 1814, he became a canon of St. Peter's Basilica . As extraordinary nuncio he was sent on a special mission to Tuscany in October 1814 .

According to a statement by Philippe Bountrys , Pius VII wanted to make him cardinal in 1816 , but Alliata refused. The Pope then resigned as auditor for health reasons on July 22, 1816. He was confirmed as canon of St. Peter's Basilica with a pension of 1,600 scudi .

Giovanni Alliata was buried in the church of Santi Vincenzo e Anastasio a Trevi .
