History of origin
After releasing her third studio album, Safe Trip Home , Dido set out to quickly release a new album. She recorded some songs in studios in London and Los Angeles . She also produced two songs for the soundtracks of Sex and the City 2 and 127 Hours . The latter even received an Oscar nomination. The album received mostly average ratings. Metacritic gave it a score of 59/100 based on 12 reviews. Of these, eight were mixed and four were positive.
Stephen Thomas Erlewine from AllMusic praised the style and called the album sophisticated yet sensual. For him, in contrast to the previous one, the album would be less tailored to domesticity and more to an evening out. For BBC Music's Nick Levine , the album was pleasant to listen to with its open lyrics and friendly melodies. He criticized the sometimes meaningless sentimentality, but praised the predominantly conveyed empathy and emotion. MusicOMH's Laurence Green called the album nice and calm. It will not break new ground, but it was never the intention.
Caroline Sullivan from the Guardian found the opening song particularly annoying, as Dido sounded listless to her. The rest of the album, on the other hand, is interesting and differs positively from the, in their opinion, bland previous albums. Their conclusion was that the album at least didn't arouse the desire to hear something else. Andy Johnson of PopMatters found the album boring overall, Dido hardly had developed any further. The change she's made is only half-hearted, immature and, in the case of Let Us Move On , trite. However, he also found good songs and particularly praised Love to Blame .
Andy Gill from the Independent saw little good in the album and found the lyrics especially weak. In his opinion, these could have come from a computer that Loose Women saw. However, he praised Sitting on the Roof of the World . John Pareles of the New York Times recommended not to expect too much from the album, which only demands consolation.
