Girolata Bay with Citadel

The village of Girolata is part of the municipality of Osani on the west coast of Corsica and is located on the La Scandola peninsula, which is a designated nature reserve, about 30 km north of Porto . The peninsula, the bay of Porto and parts of the south adjoining coast were included in the UNESCO list of world natural heritage in 1983.

The bay of Girolata is bordered by Capu Seninu and Punta Scandola. The former fishing village with around 100 inhabitants includes ten houses and the ruins of a Genoese fortress. It cannot be reached by car, but only on foot via various hiking trails, including the long-distance trail Mare e monti (Italian: sea and mountains) via Girolata. In summer, excursion boats from Calvi , L'Île-Rousse , Porto, Sagone , Cargèse and Ajaccio call at the natural harbor of Girolata several times a day.
