description

Nancy, the temporary residence of a king without a kingdom - Stanislaus I. Leszczyński , stepfather of the French king Louis XV. and later Duke of Lorraine  - is the oldest and most typical example of a modern capital in which an enlightened monarch proved to be sensitive to the needs of the public. Built between 1752 and 1756 by a team led by architect Emmanuel Héré , Nancy was a carefully thought out project that was able to create a capital city that not only bolstered the sovereign's prestige but was also functional.

Place Stanislas

The Place Stanislas is a classicist urban ensemble in the middle of Nancy ( ), which was laid out in the 18th century to surround the medieval city ( French: vieille ville , German old town) from the 10th century with the new town (French: ville neuve ) from the 16th century . World icon

Place de la Carrière

The Place de la Carrière is located northwest of the central Place Stanislas in the old town ( ). The Place Stanislas and the Place de la Carrière are connected by the Rue Héré and separated in terms of urban planning by the Arc Héré . A low wall surrounds the square, the corners are formed by four fountains with children's figures. At the southern and northern ends a high wrought iron fence delimits the square. World icon

Place d'Alliance

The Place d'Alliance (German: Bündnisplatz) is around 150 meters east of the central Place Stanislas ( ). Initially, the square was called Place Royale (English: Royal Square ), in 1756 it was given its current name, which is supposed to remind of the alliance between France and Austria-Hungary , but also of the merger of the duchies of Bar and Lorraine .
