Giuliano Sommerhalder

Giuliano Sommerhalder (born July 16, 1985 in Zurich ) is a Swiss trumpeter .

Life

Growing up in Astano and Como , Giuliano Sommerhalder completed his trumpet studies with Pierluigi Salvi at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi with distinction. He also studied with his father Max Sommerhalder at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold and continued his education with Maurice André , Éric Aubier , Stephen Burns , Edward Carroll , Hans Gansch , Markus Stockhausen , Pierre Thibaud , James Thompson and others.

From 2006 to 2011 Giuliano Sommerhalder was solo trumpeter in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under Riccardo Chailly . From 2011 to 2013 he was solo trumpeter under Mariss Jansons with the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra. As a soloist (also on the baroque trumpet ) he has performed in Europe, America and Asia, with orchestras such as the NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, the BBC Symphony Orchestra , the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra , the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin , the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich , the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover , the Zurich Chamber Orchestra , the Munich Chamber Orchestra , the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra , the Moscow Soloists , the Basel Chamber Orchestra , the Leipzig MDR Symphony Orchestra , the Saarbrücken German Radio Philharmonic and the symphony orchestras of the Czech and Polish radio.

Awards

Giuliano Sommerhalder has won the ARD music competition ( Munich ), the Maurice André competition ( Paris ), the “Prague Spring” competition , the Timofei Dokschizer competition ( Vilnius ), the trumpet competition at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory ( Moscow ), and the Concertino radio competition Praga and many other institutions. In 2008 he was selected for BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists .
