Manohla Dargis of the New York Times writes that Give Me Liberty is sometimes reminiscent of Alexei German , a Russian master of controlled chaos. Unpredictable from scene to scene, the films also cast a spell over you because of the moving performances and especially the comedic performance of Maksim Stoyanov . Dargis also emphasizes the whiplash camera work, the abrupt film editing and the sudden change of tone, but also the factual approach to the subject of disability , including the in-depth exchange between Vic and a severely disabled elderly man.
