The Glött is a river in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia , which flows into the Danube from the right after an approximately 35 km long, initially northern, at the end northeastern run in the area and opposite the eponymous capital of the community Blindheim in the district of Dillingen an der Donau .

geography

course

The Glött rises in the Scheppacher Forest about 4 km east-northeast of the eponymous village Scheppach in the market town of Jettingen-Scheppach in the district of Günzburg and about 0.7 km north of the route of the federal motorway 8 at about 507  m above sea level. NHN . At the very beginning it flows east and then soon begins in the Scheppacher Forest, a loop-rich north run. After she has left the forest and changed the municipality, she flows past the eponymous municipality Landensberg on the right bank, from which her first major tributary Weiherbach feeds her, opposite is the associated village Glöttweng . In a narrow meadow through a Waldenge, it is initially the border river to Haldenwang in the west and then changes to the area of the municipality of Winterbach , where it receives reinforcement from the left of Wallerbach and Flosserlohbach at the two villages of Winterbach and Waldkirch .

Then in the area of Glött the forest edges recede to the left and right on the hill heights, at the first village of Heudorf the Reichenbach feeds them from the right. The largest settlement Glött on its upper course is then mainly on the right, at the Breitwiesmühle, which follows a little downwards, between the Sebastiansberg ( 497  m above sea level ) on the left and the slightly lower Sporn Gänsberg on the right, the river reaches only about 433  m above sea level. NHN the only gently sloping Donauried . A little over 3 km further north, coming from the southwest, the Aislinger Bach flows into a large gravel mining area with many lakes.

There the Glött bends to about 425  m above sea level. NHN is now on a fairly stable northeast course until the end and now runs for a long time at an acute angle closer to the Danube. It first crosses a short stretch of the municipality of Holzheim and then for a long time that of the district town of Dillingen on the Danube . On this section past Fristingen and Kicklingen on the right bank, some partly long ditches drain large parts of the Donauried into the Glött, such as the Dopfengabe from the left and the Schwarzgraben from the right. Two ditches from the left, the Holzgraben and the Feldgüssegraben, open onto the following, almost non-settled Donauried section of Höchstädt an der Donau . After its inflow, the Glött changes to the river bank at the municipal boundary to Blindheim through a gap in the flood dam that accompanies the river. About a kilometer later, it joins the narrow strip of the Apfelwörth nature reserve, which follows the river on the right, from the right and at about 410  m above sea level. NHN in the Danube .

The Glött flows about 97 meters below its source and only about 15 meters below its bend at the inflow of the Aislinger Bach. In relation to its entire length of 35.0 km, it has an average bed gradient of around 2.8 ‰, on the 16.4 km long lower course from the last-mentioned point only one of 0.9 ‰.

Catchment area

In terms of natural space , the catchment area of the Glött on the upper reaches of the Iller-Lech gravel plates , then on the Donauried , both are sub-areas of the Danube-Iller-Lech plate . It covers 111.2 km² and has the shape of a tube that is wide on the upper reaches and north, narrow and northeast on the lower reaches, around the river, which runs in the same direction. Soon after entering the Donauried, the very flat river plain to the right of the Danube, its course bends to the northeast and now only slowly approaches the Danube. Correspondingly, some moderately long ditches compete with the Danube to the northwest of it, while further down to the left of its catchment area to the Danube there are only old loops of the river.

On the south side of the bottom basin of the resulting close to the Glöttlauf dewatered Glöttgraben with its adjacent trenches, the outlying valley further down the Danube. The catchment area on the upper reaches, on the other hand, borders on that of the Zusam in the east and on that of the Mindel in the west , both of which are Danube tributaries that noticeably exceed the Glött.

The Glötttal

The valley of the upper Glött up to the entrance to the Donauried around the Breitwiesmühle a little down from Glött was created during the middle and younger ice ages through erosion . Its left slope , sloping to the east, is usually considerably flatter than the right.
