Glorified Magnified is the second published music album by the British rock band Manfred Mann's Earth Band (MMEB). It was recorded at Maximum Sound Studios in London and was released in 1972.

The album

In contrast to the high proportion of cover versions that is typical for the MMEB, Glorified Magnified contains many of the band members' own titles. The cover versions of this album are one song each by Bob Dylan and the lesser known American songwriting duo Charyl Edmonds and Jonah Thompson. From a commercial point of view, the album was not a great success and the singles that were released did not reach the charts either.

Artistic design

The cover design shows a rather reduced artwork. For the first time the band logo that has become typical for the MMEB is shown here. This sits centrally on the front and is surrounded by a plain background. Otherwise only the title of the album can be read here, apart from information from the record label such as catalog number and label logo. The band logo shows a stylized globe inside, which is surrounded on the outside by a wide black ring and a much narrower white, black and blue ring. The wide black ring contains the first part of Manfred Mann's band name in white letters in the upper half, whereby the writing is oriented slightly to the left. The second part of the name Earth Band overlays in two lines in large, red and capital-like font with a thin white border the larger part of the rest of the logo to about two thirds in the lower right part. Since then, this logo can be found again and again on a large number of MMEB publications and their merchandising material . Both the European and US versions were delivered in a gatefold cover when they were first released . However, the European version used a white background while the US version had a black background. Later re-releases on vinyl usually did without the gatefold cover.

reception

In Volume 1 of its book series Rock , the magazine eclipsed describes the album as "still wildly improvising in the sound of the early seventies pale without major highlights" ( Walter Sehrer, Matthias Bergert, Marcus Wicker, Wolfram Porr : Rock - The Complete Works of the Greatest Rock Acts in Check : all albums, all songs (part 1)) wafting away and only assigns the lowest category bad buy for the work . In the overall view of all Manfred Mann's Earth Band albums, the album lands in last place 16.

Robert Christgau gave the album a good B + rating and describes it as more head-driven, more electronic and more improvisational than the previous album, Manfred Mann's Earth Band , but without achieving its satisfaction and literary or pop claims.

Bruce Eder from allmusic describes the album as a solid heavy rock album in the time it was made, which is still around decades later. The album received four stars out of five.
