The Gmina Brzeszcze is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Oświęcimski of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city ​​of the same name with around 11,400 inhabitants.

The municipality is located in the west of the powiat and borders on the rural municipality of Oświęcim in the north . The city of Oświęcim (Auschwitz) is seven kilometers away and Katowice about 30 km. Other neighboring communities are Kęty , Miedźna and Wilamowice .

The municipality has an area of ​​46.13 km², 56 percent of which is used for agriculture and 12 percent for forestry.

history

In 1962 Brzeszcze received town charter. At the beginning of the seventies the population rose to over 10,000. From 1975 to 1998 the municipality was part of the Katowice Voivodeship .

Since 2008 there has been a community partnership with the Tuscan Londa in Italy .
