Martín Matías Ezequiel Vargas (born May 8, 1997 in Salta , Salta Province ) is an Argentinian football player. The attacking midfielder and left winger plays for Espanyol Barcelona in La Liga .

Club career

Vargas began his professional career at Vélez Sarsfield under coach Miguel Ángel Russo and made his professional debut in 2015 in a 0-0 win against CA Colón in the Argentine Primera División.

His first game as a starter was against Defensa y Justicia in the Primera División 2016/17 season under coach Omar De Felippe , in which he scored a goal and enabled his team to win 2-1. During the season he played 16 games (13 when in the starting line-up) and scored 4 goals.

In the summer of 2019, Vargas moved to Espanyol Barcelona in Spain. He received a contract there until 2024.

National team

Vargas made his international debut for Argentina on September 8, 2018 in a 3-0 win over Guatemala .

His father Omar Francisco Mono Vargas was also a professional footballer.

Varga's nickname in Argentina is Monito (in German: "Little Monkey").
