The Gmina Nowy Staw is an urban and rural municipality with about 7600 inhabitants in the powiat Malborski ( German Marienburg ) in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is in the city of Nowy Staw ([ ˈnɔvɨ ˈstaf ]; Neuteich ; Kashubian : Nytëch ).
history
As part of the first division of Poland , the area of today's Gmina came to the state of Prussia in 1772 and from 1773 was part of the newly created province of West Prussia . From 1818 to 1919 it belonged to the district of Marienburg (West Pr.) . After the Peace Treaty of Versailles , the city and region became part of the Großes Werder district in 1920 , which was part of the Free City of Danzig until 1939 .
During the Second World War , Neuteich once again belonged to the German Empire . On May 15, 1945, West Prussia was placed under Polish administration. Unless the German residents had fled, most of them were expelled from the towns in the following period .
In the years 1975-1998 the municipality belonged to the Elbląg Voivodeship .
