The Gmina Opoczno [ ɔpɔtʃnɔ ] is an urban-and-rural municipality in the Powiat Opoczyński of the Łódź Voivodeship in Poland . The seat of the Powiat and the municipality is the city of the same name with around 21,200 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality borders on the Masovian Voivodeship to the east . The city of Łódź is about 70 kilometers northwest, Piotrków Trybunalski 40 kilometers west and Radom about 50 kilometers east.
history
The town and municipality came to the Kielce Voivodeship in 1950 . In 1975 the powiat was dissolved and the municipality came to the Piotrków Voivodeship . In 1999 the powiat was re-established and part of the Łódź Voivodeship.

traffic
The Opoczno Południe station is located in Świerczyna on the Grodzisk Mazowiecki – Zawiercie high-speed line ( the country's central railroad ). The Opoczno station is currently the terminus for passenger traffic on the Łódź – Dębica railway line . - The Antoniów stop on the Tomaszów Mazowiecki – Radom railway line is no longer served.
