Golden Hour ( English "golden hour") is the fourth studio album by the American country singer and songwriter Kacey Musgraves . It was released on March 30, 2018 under the label MCA Nashville. Musgraves co-wrote and produced all of the songs with Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk. The album debuted at number four on the album charts in the United States .

Golden Hour received very positive reviews from music critics and won a Grammy for Album of the Year in 2019 , as well as for Best Country Album. The first two singles Butterflies and Space Cowboy were also awarded a Grammy in the categories of Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song. The album was also named Best Album at the 52nd Annual Country Music Association Awards.

Emergence

Musgraves wrote and recorded most of the songs from the album in 2017. Part of the album was recorded in a horse stable studio owned by musician Sheryl Crow . About the writing process, she said that she wrote a lot more love songs this time than for the previous albums.

The album cover was created around Golden, Texas , the hometown of Musgraves

Musgrave's sister Kelly Christine Sutton recorded the cover for Golden Hour in a photo shoot that lasted two days and took place around her hometown of Golden, Texas . Sutton worked together on all of the covers of their previous three albums. On the cover, Sutton said that Musgraves really wanted to use the paper fan, but Sutton couldn't imagine what it would end up with. The picture was taken in a large field without trees with the sky in the background. Sutton said that shortly after the recording, the two knew this was going to be the cover.

Singles

On February 23, 2018, Butterflies and Space Cowboy were released as the first release from the album, a double single. This was sold to fans in a limited edition in the form of a vinyl. The third single was the song High Horse released on June 25, 2018 . The fourth single was the song Slow Burn on October 16, 2018 . A music video was shot for each of the first three singles and published on Youtube . A video was also released for the fifth single Rainbow , which was released on February 10, 2019. The song Oh, What a World was released on May 9, 2019 as the sixth and final single .
