history

The group was founded in 2011 in the Romanian capital Bucharest and consists of Andrei Galut ( vocals ) Alex Pascu ( bass guitar ), Vlad Țelea ( guitar ), Mihai Alexandru ( guitar ) and Bogdan Enache ( drums ). Andrei Galut is the winner of Megastar , the Romanian format of American Idol , where he participated in 2008. Three of the musicians previously played in the heavy metal band Thunderstorm, which recorded a song with the Running Wild guitarist Preacher for the Running Wild tribute album ReUnation . On July 1, 2011, Goodbye to Gravity played at Béstfest with acts such as Skunk Anansie and Flogging Molly . A total of 38,000 people attended the 5-day music festival this year. On October 9th, the group played at the Romanian Metal Meeting with Pain of Salvation , Von Hertzen Brothers and White Walls .

The debut album of the same name, which was released in 2012, was remastered at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro , Sweden by Jens Bogren , who has already worked with Soilwork , Katatonia and Amon Amarth . The album was produced by Alex Pascu and Costin Dumitrache in the Train 150 Studios in Bucharest. The group took part in the "New Blood Awards", where the group made it to the finals. On August 15, 2012, the group performed together with Buffet of Fate, Amoeba, Obscure Sphinx, Without Words and Asirius at the Summer Breeze in front of a selected expert jury. Later in the evening bands such as Tasters , Graveworm and Rage played on this stage . The winner was supposed to open the open-air festival one day later on one of the two main “Pain” stages. On the same day Eluveitie , Deathstars and Every Time I Die were supposed to play there. The group lost in the final just against the Obscura Sphinx group from Poland.

On September 16, 2012, the band released the music video for The Cage . As part of the Metalhead Awards , Goodbye to Gravity played on January 31, 2013 together with the black metal band Negura Bunget in Bucharest. The group won an award in the Metal Album of the Year category in 2012 . The group took part in the Ringrocker Band Contest , where they were voted fourth by a selected jury. In the second round, the group missed a place in the top 10 and was eliminated in eleventh.

On July 27, 2013, the group played at Rock the City in Bucharest together with Enslaved and Heaven Shall Burn . Together with producer Kostas Kalimeris, who already worked with Bring Me the Horizon and Joe Bonamassa , the group recorded the second studio album in Studio Traian 150 in Bucharest. This is called Mantras of War and was published on October 30, 2015 via Universal Music Romania .

Fire disaster on October 30, 2015

During the appearance on the same day for the release of the new CD at Klub Colectiv in Bucharest , there was a fire with at least 64 dead and over 180 injured. The concert, in which “pyrotechnic effects” were also used, began at 9 pm, before the first emergency calls were received by the emergency services at around 10:30 pm. The pyrotechnics likely ignited the soundproofing in the ceiling, causing a mass panic in the crowded club as not all emergency exits were accessible. The two guitarists Vlad Țelea and Mihai Alexandru were killed in the fire in the Club Colectiv . The singer Andrei Găluț, bassist Alex Pascu and drummer Bogdan Lavinius suffered severe burns in the accident. Bogdan Lavinius died on November 8, 2015 when he was about to be transferred by plane to Zurich for treatment. The plane returned to Bucharest, but Lavinius died there despite immediate efforts by the doctors there. Alex Pascu died on November 11, 2015 after being flown from a Bucharest hospital to Paris for further treatment.

At the initiative of a fan of the band, the names of the deceased musicians were engraved on a microchip on board the InSight lander . A total of people from 230 countries were registered, 8,000 in Romania alone .

Music genre

The group played classic metalcore with influences from traditional heavy metal . Breakdowns can also be found in most of the band's songs . Most or all of the lyrics are written in English .
