Gordon Murray (musician)
Gordon Murray (born April 12, 1948 in Prince Edward Island , Canada ; † March 12, 2017 in Vienna ) was a Canadian harpsichord player , organist , clavichord and fortepiano player, and university professor.
Live and act
Gordon Murray graduated from McGill University in Montreal. Then he studied organ with Marie-Claire Alain . He studied harpsichord with Gustav Leonhardt and Kenneth Gilbert .
Murray gained fame as a soloist and continuo player in both Europe and North America. He worked in the early music ensembles Hesperion XX , Concentus Musicus and Clemencic Consort, among others . He made sound recordings for Erato and Harmonia Mundi, among others .
From 1982 to 1987 he was a professor at the Graz University of Music . Since 1986 he has been a full professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . His students included Stefan Baier , Bine Bryndorf , Norbert Zeilberger , Eugène Michelangeli, Wolfgang Zerer , Chiara Massini and many others.
Murray was run over by a car on March 12, 2017 in Vienna.
