The Granaty are a mountain range in the Polish High Tatras in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship with a maximum altitude of 2240  m npm in the Skrajna Sieczkowa Turnia . The border between the municipalities of Bukowina Tatrzańska ( Brzegi district ) in the east and Zakopane in the west runs across the ridge of the massif . The northern slopes of Skrajny Granat already belong to the municipality of Poronin (district Murzasichle ) and descend to the Dolina Pańszczyca valley .

Location and surroundings

Below the massif lie the Dolina Buczynowa , Dolina Czarna Gąsienicowa and Dolina Pańszczyca valleys . The massif borders on the Zadnia Sieczkowa Przełączka massif to the Czarne Ściany massif in the south, to the Buczynowe Turnie massif in the east over the Granacka Przełcz mountain pass and to the Grań Żółtej Turni massif in the west over the Pańszczycka Przeżnia .

The ridge of the massif runs as follows:

etymology

The name Granaty can be translated as grenades . The term grenade points is also used in literature . The name is misleading, however, as the name does not come from grenades , but from the Polish word granatowy , which means gray and is derived from the color of the granite rock. The nearby Czarne Ściany can be translated as black walls . The names can therefore be traced back to the color tones of the rock.

Flora and fauna

The tree line is 1600 meters above sea level. The Granaty are a refuge for chamois, marmots and birds of prey, especially golden eagles.

tourism

The red marked high trail Orla Perć runs over the ridge of the Granaty . Yellow and green marked hiking trails from the Dolina Czarna Gąsienicowa valley also lead to the Zadni Granat and the Skrajny Granat . From the Skrajna Sieczkowa Przełączka mountain pass , an initially apparently easy descent leads into the Dolina Czarna Gąsienicowa valley, which ends at a rock face about 100 m high. Numerous fatal accidents have occurred on the wall since Orla Perć was first developed.
