Großarmschlag is a district of the city of Grafenau in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau .

location

Großarmschlag is located in the district of the same name about four kilometers northwest of Grafenau on a gentle southern slope of the Altenstein (744 m). The stop on the Zwiesel – Grafenau railway line is on the north-western edge of the town.

history

In Ortenburgers Urbar (1417/38), the resulting probably in the 12th century city "big Armslag" is first mentioned in a document of the Electoral District Court in Castle Bärnstein indicates that the clearing in the "great Ärmbschlag" 1439 was over.

Großarmschlag is a typical rural village . The village green , under ensemble protection, forms the center of the village , on which a small stream rises. From there the cross- running long strip corridors , which were combined to form large tubs , began .

Until 1807 the village green was common property ( common land ). A community amalgamation of scattered settlements should have arisen around 1818 with the community edict of that time. In 1961, in addition to the church village of Großarmschlag, the community of Großarmschlag also included the towns of Grüb , Grüberlag , Judenhof , Kaltenberg , Langfeld , Reismühle , Schildertschlag and Steinscharten . The community area was almost 890 hectares .

In 1800 a wooden chapel was built, in its place a stone chapel was added in 1869, which was enlarged in 1892. The school church was inaugurated in 1929 and the cemetery in 1953.

In 1870, almost the entire place consisted of clapboard wooden houses. In addition to animal husbandry, agriculture was carried out. Rye, oats and, last but not least, flax, which was made into clothing by hand, were grown. The Großarmschlag volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1878.

In 1890 the place was connected to the railway. After a fire in 1914, the village had to be rebuilt. Großarmschlag has been supplied with electricity by OBAG since 1923 .

In 1937 the "District Wasteland Cooperative" was founded here, which was later renamed "Cooperative for Natural Resources and Life Sciences" and in 1959 the first combine harvester was used in the district.

On January 1, 1972, the community of Großarmschlag, which had around 1000 inhabitants, was incorporated into the city of Grafenau. The place Großarmschlag itself had 173 inhabitants in 1970. The school district Großarmschlag was dissolved.

On May 25, 1987, the village had 180 apartments in 137 residential buildings and 494 residents.

coat of arms

The description of the coat of arms reads: “In blue, a curled silver tip; in it a floating black bear head; in front a rooted golden conifer, behind an upright silver ax with a golden stem. "

The ax and tree symbolize the development of the settlement through clearing. The bear head refers to the former sovereign court Bärnstein, which was entitled to exercise sovereignty and the predominant manorial rule.

The flag is black-yellow-blue.

Sports

The locomotive Eibm'schlog is considered to be the unofficial soccer team of Großarmschlag and appears at tournaments that are independent of clubs and associations in Germany and Austria with the village coat of arms supplemented by a soccer ball.
