Großbirkel-Hungerberg is a former nature reserve in the Saar-Palatinate district in Saarland .

The area lies within the boundaries of Blieskastel's districts of Altheim and Brenschelbach near the German-French border in the Bliesgau biosphere reserve . The 14 hectare area was designated a nature reserve on May 20, 1988. In 2017 the area was integrated into the newly created nature reserve Bickenalbtal.

Protection purpose

“The purpose of protection is the preservation, promotion and development of a biotope complex with rare and endangered communities on dry, warm limestone sites and alternately moist to moist ditches. In particular, the stock of semi-arid lime should be protected. "
