The Lambsbachtal nature reserve consists of two adjacent areas on the border between Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland . It covers a total of 16 hectares and thus extends over about 10% of the course of the Lambsbach .

The Palatinate part is in the district of Käshofen , district of Südwestpfalz . The approximately 11.5 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1985 , extends along the Lambsbach to the left and right of the state road L 462, along the state border with Saarland .

The purpose of protection is the preservation of the floodplain with its meandering watercourses, the tall herbaceous meadows, reed areas, Großseggenriedern and swamp zones as habitats and partial habitats of rare animal species and as locations of rare plant species and plant communities.

In October 2016, the nature reserve was expanded as part of the Natura 2000 network to include the district of Kirrberg in Saarland. A narrow strip about 500 m long was added to the north of the L 462 state road. In the south, an approximately 250 m long part of the valley was added.

The primary protection purpose is the preservation, restoration and development of a favorable conservation status of the alluvial forests , moist tall herbaceous meadows , transitional and swinging lawn bogs as well as the type and habitat of the brook lamprey .
