The Faunertal nature reserve is located in the Südwestpfalz district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
location
The approximately 25 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1983 , begins north of the local community Ludwigswinkel , Verbandsgemeinde Dahner Felsenland on state road L 478 . From there, it stretches along the L 487 state road for around 2.9 km to the north. The L 487 also represents the eastern border of the nature reserve. The Faunertal is in the districts of Ludwigswinkel and Fischbach .
Protection purpose
The purpose of protection is to maintain and secure the near-natural to natural animal and plant communities in the reservoirs, their tributaries and the surrounding reed and meadow areas. In addition, the diversity of the surrounding areas is to be preserved, primarily for scientific reasons, but also to preserve the communities and living spaces and their contribution to the landscape.
Flora and fauna
The Faunertal is characterized by many reservoirs along the Dielbach , which flows through the entire area from north to south. The ponds were originally created for fish farming, but are no longer used, so that near-natural siltation zones have developed here. On the bank there are sedges , in which, among other things, duckweed and swamp blue-eyes can be found.
Several ponds are located in the immediate vicinity of the national road L 487. Therefore, amphibious fences are set up along the road every year to enable migrating amphibians, such as the common frog , to safely reach their spawning waters. Volunteers are regularly used to check the fences and collect the animals and bring them across the street.
In Faunertal a large number of special and rare plant species can be found, among which are Osterluzei , Meadow Bellflower , water hemlock , marsh cinquefoil , marsh orchid , Nordic bedstraw , frog bite , Common pennywort , marsh clover , knotweed pondweed , bloodroot , Auburn pasture, creep -Willow , peat moss and misjudged water hose .
In addition to these plants, numerous animal species are resident in the Faunertal, including
- different types of dragonflies such as banded demoiselle , blue-winged demoiselle , two-striped damsel , small and large blue arrow ,
- Butterflies such as the fiery mother-of-pearl butterfly , the great mother-of-pearl butterfly , the white forest porter , the brown-spotted mother -of-pearl butterfly , the blackberry mother-of-pearl butterfly , the violet fire butterfly and the red-brown ox-eye
- Grass snake , crested newt and sand lizard
- Frogs as water frog and grass frog and toads
- Birds such as the little grebe , kingfisher , red backed killer, and great egret
