The nature reserve Am Saarbacher Mühlweiher is located in the district of Südwestpfalz in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The approximately 7 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1983 , is located in the district of Ludwigswinkel between the eastern edge of the village and Mühlweiher . In the north it stretches to the L 478 state road and borders the Faunertal nature reserve . In the south it ends south of the Saarbach .

The protection purpose is the preservation of the area with its water and silting areas as well as other wet areas, its grassland and succession areas and its forest edges as locations of rare and endangered wild plant species and plant communities as well as a habitat for rare, wild animal species. The protection is also provided for scientific reasons .

The nature reserve is traversed in a west-east direction by the Saarbach, the upper reaches of the Sauer. This flows into the Mühlweiher at the eastern end of the area. The crayfish were recorded here in 2010. It was the coexistence of the European crayfish and from North America coming American crayfish , an invasive type of cancer found.
