The Great Kluskopf or Great Klusskopf near Brilon Forest in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis is 760  m above sea level. NHN the highest point of the Schellhorn ridge in the Rothaargebirge .

The Große Kluskopf located in the Sauerland lies in the northeast part of the Rothaargebirge and forms the southern elevation of the Schellhorn, a mountain range in the Hoppernkopf up to 805.6  m high between the Hoppecke in the east and its tributary Schmalah in the west; to the south the landscape leads to the Hoppernkopf and to the north to the Rehkopf ( 675.1  m ). In the urban area of Brilon it is about 3.5 km south of Brilon-Wald (southern district of Brilon) and about 3 km northwest of the core town of Willingen , which is in the neighboring district of Waldeck-Frankenberg in northern Hesse .

Natural allocation

The Große Kluskopf belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Hochsauerländer Schluchtgebirge (333.8) to the natural area Schellhorn and Treiswald (333.82). The landscape leads south into the natural area of Langenberg (333.58).

Mountain heights and crests

In the area of ​​the Großer Kluskopf there are three knolls. The height of the middle is given in the topographic map 1: 50,000 with 760.0 m. According to the German basic map 1: 5000 from 2011, it is 760.4 m high  , the 330 m north-west summit 741.6  m and the smaller summit 240 m south 738.2  m high.

Protected areas

The Großer Kluskopf nature reserve ( CDDA no. 329397; designated 2001; 2.53  hectares in size) and parts of the Hoppecke-Diemel-Bergland landscape protection area <landscape type A> (CDDA no. 345020; 1989; 78.03  km² ).

Traffic and walking

The federal road 251 and the Uplandbahn run east past the Großer Kluskopf in the valley of the Hoppecke from Brilon-Wald to Willingen . Several forest paths and paths run along and on the elevation.
