In the Schleswig-Holstein War (1848-1851) he was on the side of the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein.

On December 8, 1828, Schwetzschke was accepted into the Masonic lodge Zu den Drei Degen in Halle, in which his father Carl August and his brother Carl Ferdinand were already members.
