Cho Gu-ham (born July 30, 1992 in Chuncheon ) is a South Korean judoka . He was world champion 2018 in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 100 kilograms.
Athletic career
Cho Gu-ham won the 2009 Asian U20 Heavyweight Championship. In 2010 he was third and in 2011 second in the Junior World Championships. In 2013 he won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Bangkok. At the Universiade in Kazan he won the title.
In 2014, the 1.78 m tall Cho Gu-ham switched from heavyweight to light heavyweight. In this weight class, he won a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon . In 2015 he won the Universiade in Gwangju. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he won his first fight against the Swede Martin Pacek , in his second fight against the Ukrainian Artem Bloschenko after 1:35 minutes.
In December 2017, Cho won the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo. At the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018, he lost in the final to the Japanese Kentaro Iida . Three and a half weeks later, at the World Championships in Baku , he defeated the Dutchman Michael Korrel in the quarter-finals and the Russian Niyaz Ilyasow in the semi-finals. In the final he defeated the Georgian Warlam Liparteliani and was world champion.
