Guillermo McGill Ferrari (born September 23, 1965 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan jazz musician ( drums , percussion ).

McGill, who has lived in Barcelona since he was twelve , began playing with the band des Taller de Musics in Barcelona as a teenager , where he was trained by Aldo Caviglia and won first prize in the National Jazz Competition for Young Performers three times in a row . In workshops he was taught by musicians such as Thad Jones , Billy Higgins , Bill Dobbins , Joe Henderson , Barry Harris , Chuck Israels , Bob Moses and Billy Hart . He received several awards with the Naima group , with which he also appeared on television. In 1986, when he moved to Madrid , he started working with Manuela Vargas' flamenco dance company.

McGill became a member of Chano Domínguez's band in the early 1990s , with whom he became known in the field of flamenco jazz and recorded several albums. Soon he also accompanied singers like Enrique Morente , Esperanza Fernández , Carmen París or Ana Salazar , for whom he produced an album in 2003, and flamenco fusion musicians such as Juan Manuel Cañizares , Carles Benavent or Jorge Pardo .

He has released six albums under his own name, mostly with a quintet, first Los sueños y el tiempo (1999), Cielo (2002), Oración (2005) and Tan cerca (2008). On The Art of Respect (2013) he starred with Dave Liebman , John Abercrombie and George Mraz . Most recently Es hora de caminar (Clandestino Records 2016, with Perico Sambeat , Marco Mezquida , Javier Colina and the flamenco guitarist Juan Diego Mateos) was released. He also worked with musicians such as Kenny Wheeler , Tete Montoliu , Hozan Yamamoto , Wallace Roney , Wynton Marsalis , David Binney , Gonzalo Rubalcaba , Paolo Fresu , Joe Pass , Marc Johnson , Antonio Serrano and Julian Argüelles .
