Guram Tuschischwili (born February 5, 1995 ) is a Georgian judoka . In 2018 he was world champion, in 2017 and 2019 European champion.

Athletic career

Guram Tuschischwili was third in the 2011 U17 European Championships in the weight class up to 90 kilograms. A month and a half later, he won the U17 World Championships. From 2012 to 2014 he competed in the weight class up to 100 kilograms. In 2012 he was third in the U20 European Championships. In 2013 he won the Junior European Championships and in the same year won his first Georgian championship in the adult class. At the Junior European Championships in 2014 he was eliminated in his first fight against the Ukrainian Semen Rakita. At the U21 World Championships Tushishvili took fifth place.

In 2015 Tuschishvili switched to the heavyweight division, the weight class over 100 kilograms. In 2015 he was the European Junior Champion in this weight class and finished seventh at the U21 World Championships. In 2016 he won the Georgian championship title.

In 2017 Tuschishvili won the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Baku against the Hungarian Barna Bor . At the 2017 European Championships in Warsaw, he defeated the Czech Lukáš Krpálek in the quarter-finals and the Dutch Roy Meyer in the semi-finals . In a purely Georgian final, he defeated Adam Okruashvili and was European champion. At the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, Tuschischwili won the quarter-finals over the Austrian Daniel Allerstorfer . After his semi-final defeat against the French Teddy Riner, he lost to the Mongol Naidangiin Tüwschinbajar in the battle for a bronze medal . At the end of 2017, Tushishvili won the Masters in Saint Petersburg.

In 2018 he won the Grand Prix tournament in Tbilisi. At the 2018 European Championships in Tel Aviv, he defeated Oleksandr Hordiienko from Ukraine in the quarter-finals . After defeats in the semi-finals against the Russian Tamerlan Baschajew and in the battle for bronze against the Dutchman Henk Grol , Tushishvili finished in fifth place. Five months later at the World Championships in Baku he defeated the Dutchman Roy Meyer in the quarter-finals and the Mongolian Öldsiibajaryn Düürenbajar in the semifinals . In the final he met the Azerbaijani Ushangi Kokauri and won the world title. At the end of 2018, Tuschishvili won the Masters in Guangzhou.

At the beginning of 2019, Tushishvili took a break and only entered the season with a tournament victory in Cluj at the beginning of June. In 2019 the European Championships took place as part of the European Games 2019 in Minsk. In the quarterfinals he defeated Maciej Sarnacki from Poland and Henk Grol from the Netherlands in the semifinals. With his final victory over the Russian Inal Tassojew , Tushishvili won his second European title. Two months later at the World Championships in Tokyo he defeated Henk Grol in the quarterfinals. After his semi-final defeat against the Japanese Hisayoshi Harasawa , he lost the fight for a bronze medal against Roy Meyer.
