Gustav Erwin Nehrhoff von Holderberg (born August 9, 1806 in Gebersbach, now part of Waldheim , † November 13, 1890 in Laubegast ) was a Saxon general of the infantry .

Life

Nehrhoff joined the Saxon Army in 1828 and joined the 1st Rifle Battalion as a porter ensign . There he became second lieutenant in 1832 and prime lieutenant in 1840 . In 1849 he took part in the Schleswig-Holstein survey and in the same year became a captain in the newly established Jäger Brigade. By 1859 Nehrhoff rose to the command of the 1st Jäger Battalion. He led this association in 1864 in the war against Denmark in the storming of the Düppeler Schanzen and in 1866 against Prussia . For his brave behavior, Nehrhoff was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of St. Henry on July 21, 1866 .

From July 26, 1866, as a colonel, he briefly commanded the 1st Infantry Brigade "Crown Prince" and on April 1, 1867 was appointed commander of the newly formed 2nd Infantry Brigade No. 46 in Bautzen . In this position he was promoted to major general on June 17, 1867 and was given command of the 2nd Infantry Division No. 24 in Dresden on June 1, 1869 . With this large association he took part in the war against France in 1870/71 . Nehrhoff led his division in the battles of Gravelotte , Sedan and Villiers and the enclosure of Paris . During the war he was promoted to lieutenant general on September 11, 1870 . In addition, on March 27, 1871, Nehrhoff was entrusted with the first class of the Military Order of St. Henry. He also received both classes of the Iron Cross and the Grand Cross of the Württemberg Military Merit Order . Until the beginning of November 1871, the division also belonged to the occupation army in France.

On April 1, 1874 he joined the command and took over the 1. Division no. 23 until it finally on 13 July 1875 as General of Infantry to the disposition was made.
