Gustav Julius Freiherr von Wechmar (born October 18, 1791 in Guhren, Steinau district , † March 1, 1863 in Görlitz ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 9th Cavalry Brigade .

Life

Gustav Julius was the son of the former Prussian lieutenant . D. and Mr. auf Guhren Gottlieb Rudolf von Wechmar (1760–1828) and his wife Charlotte Amalie Karoline, née von Schlieben (1757–1800).

Military career

Wechmar joined in 1804 as Junker in the Hussars "from Oye" the Prussian army and was promoted in mid-September 1806 Cornet . In the Fourth Coalition War he was wounded in the Battle of Jena and in retreat in the battle near Zehdenick . He also fought at Heilsberg , Königsberg and the Passange. After the Treaty of Tilsit , Wechmar was promoted to Second Lieutenant on December 4, 1807 and transferred to the 1st Silesian Hussar Regiment on February 18, 1809 . During the campaign against Russia in 1812 he took part in the battles near St. Annen, Olai, Clievenhof, Wollgund, Ruhenthal, Mesothen and Garossenkrug.

In the wars of liberation Wechmar was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for his behavior near Dresden and was wounded in the battle of Ligny . He fought at Waterloo , was wounded in the action at Gosselies, and took part in the action at Compiegne, Sevres. Wechmar received the Iron Cross 1st class for Issy.

On August 31, 1815 he was promoted to prime lieutenant and transferred as an adjutant to the Liegnitzer Landwehr inspection before he was aggregated to the 1st Cuirassier Regiment on October 2, 1817 . On March 24, 1818, he was transferred to the 8th Dragoon Regiment and with the promotion to Rittmeister Wechmar was transferred to the 4th Cuirassier Regiment in mid-May 1818 . After he had been promoted to major at the end of March 1836 , he was commissioned on March 30, 1844 to lead the 3rd Cuirassier Regiment and on January 14, 1845, Wechmar was appointed regiment commander. In this position he rose to colonel by May 1848 . On April 18, 1850, he was transferred to the 9th Cavalry Brigade as commander, on May 7, 1850, aggregated to the 3rd Cuirassier Regiment, and on March 22, 1852, promoted to major general. Wechmar took his on June 6, 1854 farewell with board . He died on March 1, 1863 in Görlitz.

Wechmar married Auguste von Loeben on February 15, 1820 . The marriage remained childless.
