Career

Gustav Olofsson was born in Borås, but grew up in Umeå and later in California . After a brief return to his Swedish homeland, the family finally settled in Colorado , where he played in a regional youth league for the Colorado Thunderbirds in his youth . At the end of the 2011/12 season, the defender moved to the Green Bay Gamblers in the United States Hockey League (USHL), who had selected him in the USHL Entry Draft 2011 in 29th position. The 2012/13 season was his first full season in the highest junior league in the United States, in which Olofsson came on 23 scorer points in 63 games and was then appointed to the USHL All-Rookie Team. As a result, he was selected in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in 46th position by the Minnesota Wild . For now, however, Olofsson enrolled at Colorado College and ran for one season for their ice hockey team, the Tigers , in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference . He also represented his home country on an international level for the first time at the turn of the year when he won the silver medal with Sweden's U20 team at the 2014 U20 World Cup .

After the season he signed a contract with the Minnesota Wild in March 2014 and made his professional debut with their farm team , the Iowa Wild , in the American Hockey League a little later . In Iowa, the defender also started the 2014/15 season, but tore the glenoid labrum in his left shoulder in the first game and was out for the rest of the season. Thus, Olofsson only completed his first full professional season in 2015/16, in which he came to 52 AHL appearances and scored 17 points. He also made his debut in November 2015 for the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League (NHL).

From the beginning of the 2016/17 season, the Swede continued to play mainly in the AHL and took part in the AHL All-Star Classic , but was regularly called up for short appearances in the NHL team of Wild. He finally spent the following season entirely in Minnesota. Before the start of the 2018/19 season, however, he was handed over to the Canadiens de Montréal in October , while William Bitten switched to the game in return . He then played only two games for the Rocket de Laval in the AHL this season and fell out the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.
