Gustav Rée

Gustav Rée (born November 16, 1810 in Offenburg , † August 7, 1869 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a Baden politician.

Professional background

As the illegitimate son of a government registrar, Rée studied philosophy and law at the University of Freiburg from 1832 to 1836 . There he became a member of the Euthymia Freiburg fraternity in 1833 . In 1841 he became a senior court attorney in Constance .

Political activity and indictment

From 1845 to 1849 Rée was mayor of Offenburg and, from September 12, 1847, also headed the radical democratic Offenburg assembly . From May 23, 1848 to August 4, 1848, he was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly in the Paulskirche as a member of Offenburg , where he belonged to the radical Donnersberg faction .

In 1849 he was charged with supporting the Baden revolution of high treason accused but acquitted in 1850.

The Gustav-Rée-Anlage in Offenburg is named after him today. Since his admission on June 25, 1863, he was a member of the Freiburg Freemason Lodge Zur noble Aussicht .
