Josef Karl Burger (born December 13, 1805 in Offenburg , † November 30, 1880 in Karlsruhe ) was a German lawyer and politician .

Life

Burger was the son of the innkeeper Bartholomäus Burger (Gasthof "Neue Pfalz" in Offenburg) and his wife Maria Anna Kopf. On January 31, 1833, he married Maria Nicola Johanna Dijourdhui in Offenburg , the daughter of the merchant and trader Conrad Dijourdhui.

After attending the Offenburg grammar school from 1824 to 1826, Burger first studied philosophy , then law in Freiburg . During his studies in 1821 he became a member of the old Freiburg fraternity . From 1826 to 1828 he continued his studies in Heidelberg. From 1829 to 1830 and again from 1831 to 1832 he was a volunteer at the Offenburg Oberamt and spent a year of study in France in 1830/31. From 1832 he worked as a lawyer in Offenburg. From 1832 to 1840 he was mayor of Offenburg (he was re-elected in 1838). 1840-1843 he was official assessor in Oberamt Bruchsal where he in 1843 bailiff was in 1848 bailiff, then from 1849 Councilor in Karlsruhe. From 1852 to 1855 he worked as city ​​director in Freiburg. In 1865 he was retired for health reasons.

In 1850 he was a member of the Volkshaus of the Erfurt Union Parliament . From 1850 to 1860 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Baden Estates . In 1855 he became a secret councilor and lecturer in the government of the Middle Rhine District in Karlsruhe. In 1858 he became a ministerial advisor and retired in 1865.
