Gustav Rüggeberg

Gustav Rüggeberg (born August 1, 1894 in Braunschweig ; † April 28, 1961 there ) was a German painter , graphic artist , illustrator and university professor.

life and work

Rüggeberg grew up in the northern Wilhelmstrasse . From 1909 to 1914 he attended the teachers' college in his hometown and then took part in the First World War. From 1918 to 1923 he attended the craftsman's arts and crafts school on Löwenwall , one of the forerunners of the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts (HBK) founded in 1963 . From 1924 he worked as an art teacher at various middle schools in the city and occasionally led teacher training courses . During this time, Rüggeberg also worked on the board of various artists' associations in the city, especially in the Braunschweig Art Association . Rüggeberg also took part in the Second World War. After the war ended, in 1945 he was given a teaching position for painting, drawing and graphic techniques at the Technical University of Braunschweig , which appointed him professor in 1955.

Rüggeberg's work consists of a. from numerous oil paintings as well as line and pen drawings . Topics and subjects are determined by his numerous travels, so Rüggeberg worked z. B. in the artist colony Nidden . A special focus of his artistic work were v. a. Drawings of historical (before the widespread destruction of the Second World War) and modern (post-war) architecture in Braunschweig. Many of his works are now in the Braunschweig Municipal Museum .

Rüggeberg worked a. a. also for the Braunschweig publishers Westermann and Appelhans , for which he illustrated school and children's and youth books . He also illustrated scientific works, local and home chronicles (including the standard work by Theodor Müller Ostfälische Landeskunde published in 1952 ) as well as company publications such as B. the 1950 published commemorative publication for the 400th anniversary of the Braunschweig company Wullbrandt + Seele .

Rüggeberg was since 1935 with Hildegard, born in Insterburg , East Prussia . Nagorny, married and last lived with her at Am Wendenwehr 19 in Braunschweig.
