Hans Friedrich Gustav von Kotze (born February 15, 1806 in Klein Oschersleben , † November 13, 1880 in Hanover ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Gustav was a son of the Prussian Rittmeister a. D. Lebrecht von Kotze (1764-1831) and his wife Dorothea, née Raabe (1773-1835).

Military career

Kotze joined the Guard Cuirassier Regiment of the Prussian Army as a volunteer on November 6, 1822 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant by mid-March 1825 . By the end of April 1842, Kotze was promoted to Rittmeister and chief of the 4th Squadron. In mid-June 1853 he was promoted to major and on June 8, 1854 , he was transferred to the 3rd cuirassier regiment in Königsberg as a regular staff officer . This was followed by a position as commander of the 7th Uhlan Regiment in Saarbrücken from February 19, 1857 . In this position Kotze was on April 9, 1857 Lieutenant Colonel and on 31 May 1859 Colonel promoted. His regiment chief , Grand Duke Friedrich I , awarded him the Commander's Cross 2nd class of the Order of the Zähringer Lion for his work in the troop leadership . On May 10, 1861, Kotze was initially commissioned to lead the 12th Cavalry Brigade and on July 24, 1861, he was appointed brigade commander under the position of his regiment à la suite . On the occasion of Wilhelm I's coronation celebrations , Kotze received the Order of the Crown III. Class.

On September 16, 1862, when he was appointed commander of the 15th Cavalry Brigade, he was transferred to Cologne and on June 25, 1864 he was promoted to major general . In 1866 Kotze led his brigade in the German War and after the peace treaty was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, for his behavior with the swords . In approval of his leave request Kotze was on 13 October 1866 awarding of the character as a Lieutenant General with the statutory board for disposition made.

He died unmarried.
