Györköny ( German Jerking ) is a Hungarian community in the county Tolna and belongs to the small area Paks .
Location and traffic
Györköny is 110 km south of Budapest, 15 km west of Paks and 30 km north of Szekszárd at the southern end of the Mezöföld nature reserve on road 63. Since March 31, 2010, Györköny can be reached via the M6 (exit Paks-Süd ) to the nearest train station it is 6 km ( Nagydorog ).
history
It was first mentioned in writing in the 14th century, and the first German-speaking workers were settled in the 18th century. In the first wave from Burgenland , in the second wave from Hesse . This is how an independent dialect developed. At the 1940 census, 2,000 of the 2,500 inhabitants identified themselves as Germans. These were resettled in 3 waves from 1946 onwards to Germany (some of them came back to Györköny), the first wave to the US zone ( Franconia , Baden-Württemberg ), the next two to the Soviet zone ( Pirna ).
Today (2014) the population is 973, more than half of which are still of German descent.

There is a local history museum (Falumúzeum), a wine cellar museum ( Pincemúzeum) and an open-air stage in the wine cellar village .

Personalities
