Szekszárd is the largest town in the county

This list includes the cities and towns of the county Tolna in Hungary . There are a total of 109 municipalities in Tolna , eleven municipalities with and 98 municipalities without municipal rights . Each municipality has a mayor ( polgármester in Hungarian ) elected directly by the citizens . Each municipality has its own income, but can also receive subsidies from the central state budget. The obligations of the municipalities include a. securing primary school education , guaranteeing basic medical and social care and asserting national and ethnic minority rights .

Since 1993 there have been legal regulations for self-government for the thirteen ethnic minorities living in Hungary . The minority self-governments that have emerged since then consist of elected bodies that are integrated into the municipal administration and represent the interests of the minorities. They are sometimes very different in character or organization, but offer the respective citizens extensive linguistic and cultural autonomy.
