Foundation, school building Ludwig-Jahn- Strasse (1961–1963)

Up until the establishment of the grammar school, students from the Bremervörde region who wanted to graduate from school usually had to attend one of the two grammar schools in Stade or, from 1955, the St. Viti grammar school in Zeven .

On January 20, 1958, the Bremervörde City Council applied for the establishment of its own grammar school (then also known as the Oberschule ). This was approved by the Lower Saxony state government on July 23, 1959, initially as a so-called Progymnasium without its own upper level . If there was a sufficient number of pupils, the prospect of expansion to a "full establishment with high school diploma" was promised.

On August 24, 1959, the City Council of Bremervörde decided to build a new school center on the former exhibition grounds on Gnarrenburger Strasse and the corner of Birkenweg in Bremervörde-Engeo. This was to be used jointly by both the future grammar school and the secondary school (at that time also known as the middle school ), which until then had its location on Neue Straße.

On April 14, 1961, the Bremervörde grammar school was opened with a ceremony in the assembly hall of the agricultural school in Bahnhofstrasse.

School operations began with two classes, a sixth class (5th grade) with 29 students and a fourth (7th grade) with 35 students. The lessons initially took place together with some classes of the elementary school at that time in the current school building of the branch office of the Bremervörde elementary school, the former vocational school , on Ludwig-Jahn-Straße.

School center on Gnarrenburger Strasse (1963–1975)

The foundation stone for the new school center on Gnarrenburger Strasse was laid on August 28, 1961. The inauguration took place on June 12, 1963. The first day of school in the new building dates back to April 18, 1963. Until the inauguration of the sports hall on Gnarrenburger Strasse in September 1964, physical education took place either in the gym on Ludwig-Jahn-Strasse or - if the pig or piglet market was not held - in the market hall on Marktstrasse.

On June 7th and 8th, 1967, the first school leaving examination was held at the Bremervörde grammar school, which was passed by all 18 high school graduates.

On January 1, 1970, the Bremervörde district took over the sponsorship of the grammar school from the city of Bremervörde and decided to build a new grammar school and a sports hall at the current location on Tetjus-Tügel-Straße in Bremervörde-Engeo. The foundation stone was laid in autumn 1974.

At around the same time, construction defects were found on the school building on Gnarrenburger Strasse, so that from December 1974 about a third of the existing space was blocked by the building authorities and finally parts of the building, including the 4-storey so-called tower, were demolished. In the following period, due to the lack of sufficient classrooms for the classes, lessons took place either only in the morning or only in the afternoon.

School building Tetjus-Tügel- Strasse (from 1975)

The new school building on Tetjus-Tügel-Strasse was moved into after the autumn break in 1975, although the building was not yet fully completed at the time.

Since February 1, 1976, the Bremervörde grammar school has been a training school for the Stade study seminar for teaching at grammar schools. Student teachers since received at the high school their school-job training.

Since the merger of the old districts of Bremervörde and Rotenburg (Wümme) on August 1, 1977, the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) has been the sponsor of the Bremervörde grammar school.

In August 1978 the orientation stage was introduced in Bremervörde. The grammar school thus only comprised grades 6-13 in the 1978/1979 school year and grades 7-13 from the 1979/1980 school year.

In the 1980s, the Bremervörde grammar school was home to the regional computer center for teacher training in the field of computer science.

As a result of the abolition of the orientation level at the end of the 2003/2004 school year, the fifth and sixth grades were added back to the grammar school. In order to cover the resulting increased space requirements, additional classrooms were created above the changing rooms of the sports hall on Tetjus-Tügel-Straße. This area is known as the T-Deck.

Today the high school is part of the Bremervörde school center, which includes the Engeo elementary school, the Bremervörde elementary school, the Findorff secondary school , the secondary school, the grammar school and the vocational schools.
