The grammar school Buxtehude Süd is a grammar school in Buxtehude and with the secondary school Buxtehude Süd and the secondary school Buxtehude Süd part of the school center south in Buxtehude. Since it was founded in 1976, the school has developed rapidly. The more than 1000 students come from the catchment area of Buxtehude's south, via Hedendorf , Neukloster , Apensen , Beckdorf to Ovelgönne . Originally the school only had a lower secondary level , the introduction of the upper level took place in the school year 2005/06, after the sport-oriented all-day branch had already been introduced in 2004/05. The Buxtehude Süd grammar school has been an open all-day school since summer 2010 . The first prize awarded in 2011 by the state's best school in Lower Saxony in the Federal President's history competition went to the Buxtehude Süd high school. Since 2012, the grammar school has also been allowed to call itself a European school .

School partnerships

An exchange with the Polish city of Tarnowskie Góry has existed since the 2005/2006 school year . A school partnership has also been entered into with the Lycée Saint-Exupéry ( France ) and with St. Mary's College ( England ). In addition, in 2015 there was a student exchange with students from Colombia and the school supports students abroad, especially if they perform well.

State of the school

Since the abolition of the orientation level in Lower Saxony in 2004 and the associated relocation of some schools within the school center south, the city of Buxtehude has been renovating the high school building at Torfweg 36. The administration wing, a large part of the ground floor as well as the "old" science rooms and the general classrooms on the 2nd floor have already been renovated. The renovation of the rooms on the first floor was completed at the end of the 2008/09 school year. Plans are currently being drawn up for the rest of the renovation of the ground floor; They mainly affect the South Forum (also used for extracurricular events), which is currently in poor condition, and the neighboring music rooms. For the 2006/07 school year, the extension with general classrooms in the upper floor and physics rooms in the basement was handed over as part of the expansion to include the upper level. Since the school is recording increasing numbers of pupils, the rooms in the main building are sometimes no longer sufficient. This is why some classes and upper-level courses are taught in the building of the neighboring secondary school or in the container buildings with four classrooms built for this purpose .

Language sequence

Continuation of the foreign language English (mostly started in elementary school ). In the 6th grade you can choose between French , Latin and / or Spanish . In the 7th grade there is the option of taking either French or Latin . It has been possible to start new Spanish in year 10 since 2008 , and students from the 6th grade can now learn Spanish.

Upper school

After parents, teachers and students had committed themselves for many years to the establishment of their own grammar school upper level at the school center south, this was able to start running in 2005 with 70 students. A new building, which had become necessary due to the expansion, was ready for occupation in October 2006. In addition to new physics rooms on the ground floor, the extension also houses several group and general classrooms on the first floor. Since the 2007/08 school year, the Buxtehude Süd grammar school has been able to offer all five focus profiles: the linguistic, scientific, social, artistic and sporting focus. In some subjects there is a cooperation with the Halepaghen School in grades eleven and twelve , so that students for certain subjects change to the corresponding other school building.

Special subject offers

At the Buxtehude Süd grammar school, Spanish , philosophy , computer science and performing games are offered as special subjects . The sports-oriented all-day school branch of the school is also exceptional. Students attending this branch have additional sports lessons during the week, either with a focus on handball or with a focus on athletics . The Buxtehude Süd grammar school is one of the few grammar schools that offer all five specializations in the qualification level. In addition, if you perform well enough, you can be taught bilingually in the subjects geography , biology and sport from grade 7 onwards.

Mission statement

At an in-house training in the 2006/07 school year, teachers, students and parents designed a model for the school. Since the adoption by the general conference, the school has been under the motto "High School Buxtehude South - School in Motion". The mission statement is also part of the school program adopted in 2012, which documents the diversity of school life.
