The Veitshöchheim grammar school is a grammar school in Veitshöchheim in the Würzburg district . It was completed on September 12, 2000 at the beginning of the 2000/2001 school year.

In 2009 the school had approx. 800 students, most of them with approx. 300 students from Veitshöchheim itself, but also from Güntersleben (approx. 110 students), Rimpar (approx. 100), Thüngersheim (approx. 50) and Margetshöchheim (approx. 50), Zell (approx. 35) and Würzburg (approx. 30) come.

Notebook classes have existed since 2003, which are not offered continuously due to moderate demand.

Partnerships

Partner schools exist in France in Merdrignac in Brittany , in Santa Cruz , Bolivia with the German School and in Faribault , Minnesota with the Faribault High School.

School constitution

In the years 2000–2002 a school constitution was drawn up by various members of the school family and passed by the school community. The most important elements are freedom from emotional and physical violence, considerate treatment of members of the school community, tolerance and the right to motivating, undisturbed lessons.

Projects, working groups and elective courses

• The school took part in the MODUS21 project . New forms of performance survey were tested, special attention was paid to developing, fixing and checking basic knowledge, and interdisciplinary projects were implemented.
• From September 2004 to July 2007, the Veitshöchheim grammar school participated in the European Union's Comenius program as a coordinating school. Partners were the Istituto Professionale Statale per i Servizi Commerciali, Turistici e della Pubblicità "Antoinetta De Pace" in Lecce / Italy, the Kandavas K. Milenbaha vidusskola in Kandava / Latvia, the private grammar school and secondary school of the poor school sisters of Our Lady in Vienna / Austria and the Scolar Industrial "Dragomir Hurmuzescu" group, Medgidia - in Constanța / Romania. By imparting program-specific knowledge and helping with the translation of the individual programs into the relevant national language, the Veitshöchheim high school was able to make a contribution to improving the quality of teaching in the other schools.
• The juggling group "Drunter und Drüber" performs a full-length variety show every two years . In 2006 she took part in the Sportaculum competition. Since May 2014, badges in bronze, silver, gold and platinum can be obtained by taking a practical exam.
• The school newspaper "Mainung" was awarded the fourth best newspaper in the competition of the Ministerial Commissioner for Lower Franconia in the 2007/08 school year. In the Franconian school newspaper competition organized by Nürnberger Nachrichten and Junge Presse Bayern eV (JPB), “Mainung” won 3rd place in the high school category for “critical journalism”.
• The Lesescout project is a local-regional reading network of the Veitshöchheim grammar school founded in 2008, which actively promotes reading . As part of this reading network, there is the possibility of acquiring the certificate “Proof of Culture”.
• The " open all-day school " offers students the opportunity to spend the whole day at school.
• It is the first grammar school in the Würzburg area to be an authorized examination center for the European Computer Driving License (ECDL).
• Since the 2007/2008 school year, the school has been represented in the teaching and learning working group in notebook classes .
• Recently, the grammar school played a major role in the Stolpersteine project in Veitshöchheim, in which 15 stumbling blocks were laid in memory of the victims of National Socialism . Pupils and teachers at the grammar school spent a year working intensively on two victims and the Nazi era and put together a program with poetry, music and information that was held on September 27, 2009 under the title "Evening of Remembrance" in the conference room of the Town hall Veitshöchheim was listed.
• Japanese is also available in elective classes .

Rooms and technical equipment

The high school has been built in a modern architectural style that places particular emphasis on bright rooms. All classrooms, with the exception of the two workrooms, art rooms and specialist rooms are equipped with an interactive whiteboard, a document camera and a PC; the rooms for the notebook classes available at the time, which are no longer offered due to lack of demand, also have a socket at every seat. There are numerous seating areas in the school, two table tennis tables and a basketball hoop are available. In addition, other sporting goods such as badminton or hockey sticks are offered for the "active break".

The school is located in the Veitshöchheim school and sports center next to the triple gymnasium and the sports field. The Eichendorff secondary school and elementary school and the vocational training center , which is also used by the students for lunch , are located nearby .
