Marienpark Berlin

The Marie Park Berlin is in the southern Berlin district of Tempelhof-Schoeneberg (district Mariendorf ) situated, currently around 360,000 sqm (before the sale of patches, around 38.5  hectares ) large business park . It is part of the former Mariendorf gasworks and has been developed by BMDF Gewerbepark Berlin-Mariendorf GmbH & Co. KG since 2013. In addition to the American craft beer brewery Stone Brewing, there are other users from the craft, production and logistics sectors on the site.

Development of the Marienpark

Marienpark Berlin was acquired by BMDF Gewerbepark Berlin-Mariendorf GmbH & Co. KG in 2013 . Since then, the company has been developing the former site of the Berlin-Mariendorf gasworks. In addition to the listed old buildings, other landmarks such as the Mariendorf Gasometer , the Mariendorf harbor, the old and new water towers and Berlin's largest open-space photovoltaic system are part of the Marienpark.

Old buildings

The site consists of a listed old building area in which most of the approx. 25 existing buildings are located. With the exception of a few smaller buildings, the old buildings, some with complex roof and gable structures , were built around 1900. While the buildings were used as workshops when the gas works were in operation, they were converted in the 2010s. a. appeals to small and medium-sized companies in the food industry.

Mariendorf gasometer

The Mariendorf Gasometer ( coll. ) Is located on the southern edge of the Marienpark and is one of two guide frames originally erected for gas containers on the site of the former Mariendorf gasworks. It was built between 1901 and 1902 and had a capacity of 108,000 m³. The second gasometer, which did not survive the dismantling work by GASAG , had a capacity of 150,000 m³. The Mariendorf Gasometer was set up for the first time in Vienna in the early 1890s . At the end of the 19th century it was no longer needed there, so that the Imperial Continental Gas Association (ICGA), as the owner, moved the management framework to Mariendorf.

The Mariendorf Gasometer is a listed building and was renovated between 2012 and 2014 for around three million euros.

Mariendorf spherical gas tank

To store the gas, two high-pressure spherical gas containers were built in addition to the two gasometers in 1968. The capacity of the two spherical gas tanks was 161,500 m³ each. With the shutdown of the gas works, the two gas tanks were also shut down. The spherical gas containers are currently unused.

The port of Mariendorf is located on the northern edge of the Marienpark and offers access to the Teltow Canal , which connects the Spree-Oder waterway with the Lower Havel waterway . At the time of the gasworks operation in the port u. a. Coal and heating oil cleared. After the shutdown of the gasworks in 1996, the port is currently unused.

In addition to the old buildings, the gasometer and the two spherical gas tanks, the old and new water towers are architectural landmarks on the site. The building is a historical monument. The old water tower is part of the old building stock and was built between 1900 and 1901 during the first construction phase. The structure is around 29 meters high. The new water tower was built at the same time as the spherical gas container. During this phase - from the end of the 1960s to the end of the 1970s - the Mariendorf gasworks was fundamentally modernized and gas production was converted. The new water tower is around 48 meters high.

Ground-mounted photovoltaic system

In the western part of the Marienpark, Berlin's largest photovoltaic open-space systems are located on around 60,000 m² of land . The 7756 solar modules can generate up to two megawatts of electricity. The operator of the facility is the former owner of the GASAG site. The company has been operating the plant since 2011 and invested 4.3 million euros at the time.

Current developments in Marienpark

In July 2014 it was announced that Stone Brewing , a brewery from California , will open its first European brewery with restaurant and beer garden in Marienpark. After the brewery opened at the end of 2015, large-scale catering followed in autumn 2016 with space for up to 1200 guests.

In August 2015 it was announced that the Berlin company Dörrwerk is moving its location from Kreuzberg to Marienpark.

The German-American folk festival took place for the first time in Marienpark from July 21 to August 13, 2017. The festival could be reached with a shuttle bus from the Alt-Mariendorf underground station .

A new S-Bahn stop is to be built on Kamenzer Damm to improve the connection of the industrial area .
