The port railway was built and maintained by the Lübeck-Büchener Railway from 1892 . In June 1936, the Lübeck port company acquired the port railway. The port company sold them to LPA in January 2008. After long discussions, the 1.9 km long route along the An der Untertrave road between the swing bridge and the lift bridge was redesigned in 2012 and the track systems there were partially dismantled from summer 2013. The track to Konstinkai had already been interrupted after 2009 by the new construction of the company H. & J. Brüggen .
