Hancock is a town in Addison County of the state of Vermont in the United States with 323 inhabitants (according to the 2010 census). The parish is named after John Hancock .
geography
Geographical location
The parish is on the western flank of the Green Mountains . Larger watercourses are Emmerson's Branch , an inlet of the White River, and the Leicester River , which flows into Otter Creek . The main settlement is in the east of the town; the western, mountainous part of the town is covered by a landscape protection area. The superficial one is hilly. The highest point is the 984 m high Monastery Mountain .

history
The area was declared for settlement on November 7, 1780 by Thomas Chittenden and sold on July 31, 1781 to a group around Samuel Willcox . Settlement did not occur until 1788; the constituent local assembly took place on June 18, 1792.
The place lives primarily from agriculture and timber industry, and to a lesser extent from tourism. More than 80% of its area is occupied by the Green Mountain National Forest , a national park.

Major transport routes are the north and south passing through the valley of the White River Vermont Route 100 and west of Ripton and Middlebury leading Vermont Route 125 . On the other hand, neither a train station nor a nearby airport are available.

Hancock does not have its own public facilities. The closest hospitals are Porter Medical Center in Middlebury and Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
education
The local Hancock Village School closed in 2010. School children now attend schools in the surrounding communities. The nearest high school is in Randolph and the nearest colleges in Middlebury , Hanover in New Hampshire and Burlington . The nearest universities are in Middlebury, Norwich and Burlington.
The Hancock Free Library is located on Vermonte State Route 125.
